Join us in the woods. Twice a year, we try to plan a weekend of relaxation, rejuvenation, and spiritual renewal. This is a time for boisterous games, deepening friendships, introspection, and community ritual. It’s time to make time in your busy schedule for you... and us. If you absolutely cannot make the entire weekend then come for Saturday... or Saturday and Sunday.

Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville, Louisiana is back up and running. We were able to reserve Small Group Camp #3, which is a lovely little private spot with a pond. The facility will be open starting at 4:30 PM on Friday, Oct. 12. We’ll get the camp site and food ready, and settle in. Dinner will be served around 6 PM. Opening circle will be about 7:30 PM. After that it’s games, good conversation, and general silliness.

Next morning, the people who have signed up for breakfast duty will get the coffee going and then set about making the traditional Saturday morning meal. Saturday morning breakfast of Pain Perdu [lost bread], commonly known as French Toast and ham is a tradition. We’ve been doing this one for years because it’s delicious, yummy, and wonderful. Breakfast is at 8, workshops begin at 9 AM. Those responsible for lunch will have it ready for us at noon. Workshops resume at 1 and will continue until 4 PM. Dinner is served at 6:30. You’ll enjoy it. We’ve got excellent cooks. At 7:30, we’ll get the camp fire going and have a little entertainment around the blaze. Anybody want to do a talent show? We’re looking for ideas. Sunday’s schedule may need to be changed because of park regulations on when we must be out of the camp. But the past this was it: Coffee 8 AM, Brunch at 10 after the service. For those who need to eat before the service there will be cereal, milk, and fruit. After the meal we’ll clean up and get ready to be on our way.

YOU CAN GIVE A SPECIAL GIFT by giving us your knowledge. We’re looking for people to lead our Saturday workshops. You don’t have to be an expert, just have an interest. If there’s something you would enjoy sharing with us, please call Cherie LeBlanc (504-314-2632w, 504-508-1723h, or email: cherie@firstuuno.org). Here’s the wish list: meditation session, something physical like tai chi, yoga, etc., quilt making, needlework of some kind, printmaking, cooking, nature walk, growth work, and just about anything else you can think of. We also need help with the physical work to make the retreat happen. We need shoppers, set up people, and haulers. Some tuition waivers are available in exchange for various retreat staff positions.

There will be a sign-up sheet on the kitchen door for cooking & meal clean-up and Sunday final clean-up. You can also help by monitoring the site while we are there. PLEASE! NO FOOD IN THE DORMS. This will help a lot with final clean-up.
