One Book, One New Orleans - Tom Piazza's "City of Refuge"
"One Book, One New Orleans" is a city-wide effort to get everyone to read and discuss the same book. The book chosen for this year is Tom Piazza's "City of Refuge" -- a novel of 2 New Orleans families, one white Uptown and one black in the Lower Ninth Ward, before, during, and after Katrina. The OBONO campaign runs from Sept. to Nov. 13th, when the author will speak at Loyola's Nunnemaker Hall auditorium.
To link up the Greater New Orleans Unitarian Universalist (GNOUU) churches with OBONO, Rev. Jim Vanderweele of Community Church Unitarian Universalist and Rev. Melanie Morel-Ensminger of First Unitarian Universalist Church of New Orleans will alternate leading sessions of a book discussion group on "City of Refuge" on Thursdays starting in October and ending with the event at Loyola. We're allowing lots of time to get a head start on the book so that we can jump right in with good discussion at the first session.
Here's the schedule:
