Annual Jazz Funeral for the Old Year

Sunday, December 28, 2008
10:30 am at First Unitarian Universalist Church of New Orleans
5212 S. Claiborne Ave. (corner Jefferson Ave.)
Annual Jazz Funeral for the Old Year
service led by the Rev. Melanie Morel-Ensminger

The greater New Orleans community is warmly invited to join the First Church congregation for this moving ritual to end the end the year. The Red Hot Brass Band will furnish the trad jazz accompaniment, and Majestic Mortuary has loaned a real casket in which participants can all "bury" the griefs and concerns and pains and losses of the year 2008. In true New Orleans style, we will then "cut the body loose" to face the New Year with hope and joy, second lining to "The Saints." Coffee and refreshments will be served after this special intergenerational service that honors the culture of the Crescent City.
