Sunday Worship in November at 10:30 am

Sunday Worship
10:30 a.m. at 5202 S. Claiborne except as noted

November 4 Parson Clapp
Joycelyn Cole, former teacher and owner of Tour-New-Orleans.com

Rev. Theodore Parson Clapp served as minister of several New Orleans churches in the 1830s, establishing the Church of the Messiah associated with the Unitarian Association. The church became known as "The Stranger's Church" because Parson Clapp's sermons brought in standing room only crowds. Rev. Clapp was admired for staying in the city during the yellow fever and cholera epidemics of the 1800s. He left extensive writings about his 35 years in New Orleans, which give us a picture of everyday life in our city during the early to mid 19th century.

November 11 Where Do The Mermaids Stand
The Rev. Melanie Morel-Ensminger, Consulting Minister
A Sermon on the Welcoming Congregation Program for Bisexual, Gay, Intersexed, Lesbian, Queer, and Transgender Persons.

The issues of sexual orientation and gender identity can be volatile in mainline churches. While most UU churches can be more open, there are still steps to be taken in the journey of becoming truly welcoming to those who might be considered “different.” Let us make this adventure together.

November 18 Wholly Family Service & Thanksgiving
The Rev. Melanie Morel-Ensminger, Consulting Minister
Bread Communion

In this intergenerational service, we will celebrate ALL the ways there are to be “family.” Please bring a loaf or pan of bread or muffins or biscuits or scones, to represent your family. NOTE: If you would like to have an active role in this service, and speak about your family and what family means to you, please contact Rev. Melanie.
