Transformational Abundance

Stewardship Canvass FY2008

What is a Stewardship Canvass?

Canvass is the historical name for our annual stewardship campaign – something more sacred than a pledge drive and less taxing than a tithe. It is also the process through which we lift up the value of stewardship in our church. Through stewardship we take care of what we value; we hold something in trust. We are caretakers with a forward vision, ensuring that what we value will be there in the future for the benefit of others. We not only protect it, but we also help it flourish and grow.

Thus, canvass is the time of year where we come together as a community of faith; we make our commitments of financial support for the vision of this church for the upcoming year. Increasingly, we call this time Stewardship, and it encompasses the honoring of our gifts of time and talent, as well as of our treasure.

This year, Young Adults (UAA designation for UU ages 18-35) will be invited to a Young Adult Stewardship Social. If you are not canvassed as part of the Young Adult Stewardship Social, please look forward to being contacted by a Canvasser, a 1st UU Member or Friend who has been matched with you for a stewardship conversation. Members and Friends who no longer live in the greater New Orleans region will receive a letter inviting you to continue to be a steward of our congregation, supporting the transformational vision of our Unitarian Universalist congregation.

and turn out to be a transformation."
