Successful Play Tour Adds to Rebuilding Fund

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Janet Spencer, seven locations in the Pacific Northwest recently viewed a peformance of "Katrina Ultreya" a performance adapted by Janet and Laura Miller from the on-line blog of church member Mary Gehman's Katrina and post-Katrina experiences. The performance, which premiered at last year's Retreat and has been performed several times in New Orleans and in Austin, Texas, is designed for use "on the road" by recruiting members in each location to read the varying voices. Janet arranged a tour of the Northwest in September, which yielded seven performances in three states, and netted over $3000 for our rebuilding fund. She reports that her UU hosts in each area were very hospitable and supportive.
Janet served as producer, director, actor, stage manager, and business manager for productions in an Olympia, Washington coffee house, the Tacoma, Washington UU Church (with help from Charles Foster), UU churches in West Hills and Corvallis, Oregon and Walnut Creek and Santa Rosa, California. She served as our "ambassador" to these congregations, some of whom are already partner churches, and all of whom have a new connection with First Church.

The play will be presented locally, with several church members in the cast, on December 9th as a fundraiser for the People Program at the First United Methodist Church in New Orleans. Suggested donation is $10; stay tuned for more details.

Janet is getting inquiries from other UU churches, and would like to plan another road tour, but will need help. Anyone who has a flexible schedule and could take a week or two to travel with Janet and serve as stage manager/logistics coordinator (expenses paid) should let her know by leaving a message with the church office.

Thanks Janet!
