Board Approves New Policies

At its October meeting, the Board of Trustees approved four policies for the church. Full copies will be posted to the church blog, and available for viewing on the church bulletin board and in the church office. Here are the highlights of each policy:

1. Interim Building Usage/Space Allocation Policy

At this time, use of the church building is limited to certain areas, including the Sanctuary, 2 RE rooms, the Nursery, the 1st floor bathrooms, the Administrator/Minister office areas and (day time use only) the library and front hallway. We also have limited use of the upstairs kitchen.

Space use can be obtained by notifying the Administrator of need and arranging for entrance and lockup and determining calendar availability. If there are conflicts in scheduling needs that cannot be resolved with the Administrator, the issue will be referred to the Building Usage/Space Allocation Team.

Members must be flexible in using space and must be mindful of those who use space on a regular basis. Example: RE rooms are routinely used by our children and youth. These same
rooms might on occasion be used for other functions.

All members using the church building at this time are assuming risk due to the condition of the building, and absolve the church of liability in case of injury.Volunteers and others using the building while attending church sponsored events will be required to sign a waiver absolving the church of liability in case of injury.

Weekly announcements will be made during church service reminding parents and others to supervise children at all times while here in the building.

All groups using space MUST leave space in the condition, if not better, than they found it.

At this time, outside groups are not allowed use of the building without written agreement and consent of the board.

2. Announcement Protocols (slight revision from earlier version)

Sunday announcements will be made at the start of every church service by a Board Member on a rotating basis. Announcements are to be as brief and concise as possible and to only address church activities (those initiated and sponsored by the church board and its teams or task forces).

3. Use of Church Directory

The Church may from time to time generate and distribute a church directory to be distributed only within the church community and used for only church-related purposes.

4. Sunday Morning Visitor Considerations and Obligations of the Congregation/Board

First Unitarian/Universalist Church of New Orleans, in order to welcome new comers and visitors, shall adhere to the following guidelines for Sunday Morning activities:

· All members and friends are STRONGLY encouraged to wear their nametags.

· No meetings shall be scheduled during the coffee hour following the services. All such meetings shall be scheduled no earlier than thirty minutes after the end of the service.

· All Board members are encouraged to seek out visitors and new people during coffee hour.
