Proposed By-laws Revisions for November Congregational Vote

The Board of Trustees is recommending approval at the November Congregational Meeting of several changes to the church by-laws. The full text of the proposed changes will be posted to this blog within the new few days.

Here is a summary of the changes:

In Article I, Name and Purpose, change "We commit to provide a safe community of love, support, and celebration for all ages" to "We commit to provide a safe community of love, support, and celebration for people of all ages, races, national origins, sexes, sexual orientations, gender identities, classes and abilities."

Throughout the by-laws, change all reference to "committees" to "teams".

In Article III, Board of Trustees, Section E, regarding Vice President and Secretary, add the following sentence: "If there is no Vice President at the time of the board elections, the Nominating Team shall nominate someone to serve on the Board as President."

In Article III, Section I, change "In the event of vacancy on the Board or Nominating Committee" to "In the event of a vacancy on the Board, other elected position, or Nominating Team".

These changes are recommended in order to emphasize that we are welcome to all people, to reflect our movement from a committee to a team model, and to provide for authority to fill positions in the case of vacancies. If you have any questions regarding the proposed changes, please contact Ann Maclaine through the church office.
